All successful relationships take hard work.

Reuben Houser MS, LPCC
he/him/his

This is a modern world and everyone enters a relationship with different expectations, past experiences, and ways of giving and receiving love. Faith, race, culture, family dynamics, gender norms, sex and sexuality, politics, career choices, finances, and parenting in a pandemic are just some of the subjects couples need to navigate.
It is not a surprise couples fight. It is a surprise they can work anything out.
For the past 10 years, I’ve studied marriage, attachment and relationship dynamics and helped my clients create the relationships and lives they’ve always wanted.

No one was born knowing how to support their
partner and ask for the support they need.

There is no shame in saying, “I’m ready to learn.”

I provide LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy and create a safe space to explore attachment in non-heteronormative relationships.

Non-Traditional Roles and Norms

Toxic masculinity hurts everyone. I help my clients acknowledge how gender norms and expectations may have shaped their ideas of themselves and their love relationships.

I get it.

While creating relationships with compassion and empathy has always come naturally to me, knowing what to do when my wife said, “We need to talk” did not. Like many cisgendered, white men, I was socialized to avoid conflict in relationships and keep the peace. Cue, deer in the headlights.
Luckily, we both went to school for marriage and family therapy and worked relentlessly to understand our patterns, share vulnerably with each other, and practice an abundance of patience as we worked on ourselves individually.

I firmly believe it shouldn’t take two master’s degrees to figure this out.
